On May 20 The Izaak Walton League will be hosting their annual Sportsman’s Day. This is a day of fun and activity designed to get children involved and excited about shooting sports and the outdoors. This year, they are excited to announce that they will be teaming up with the Blue Creek Springtime Monarchs (Benton County’s National Wild Turkey Federation chapter) and will be combining JAKES Day with the Sportsman’s Day!Registration starts @ 8:00 am and safety brief and events start @ 9:00 am at the Izaak Walton clubhouse at 1234 rt 150 Vinton.

The Shellsburg American Legion Saturday morning breakfast is held each Saturday morning. Updated: Weather pending...The AMVETS will have their food trailer at Dollar Fresh over the weekend. They will be serving:HamburgersHot DogsBratsChipsSodaAll for a freewill donation. The AMVETS will be there from 11 a.m to 7 p.m on Friday and Saturday and then from 11 a.m. to  3 p.m. on Sunday. 

Birds of a Feather will host its second annual flea market from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 3. There will be vendors both at Birds of a Feather and indoors at the Community Center. This is the same day as townwide garage sales in Van Horne and Newhall.

Wesley United Methodish Church Rummage Sale will be held on MAY 5 at 8:30 AM until 3:00 PM and MAY 6 9-11:00 AMFree-Will donations go to fund church programs The church is located at 516 2nd Ave. in Vinton (next to the Library!)Come on out and lend a hand to the church, and haul some treasures home!

The Vinton Community Blood Drive will be held at the Vinton Skate & Activities Center located at 1703 C Ave. in Vinton. The event will take place on Thursday, May 25 from 12:30-5:30 p.m.Walk-ins are welcome, but you could save 15 minutes by using RapidPass. The Van Horne Economic Development will hold a family spring celebration Saturday, May 13, on Main Street. There will be free games and prizes for kids of all ages, a vendor market at Birds of a Feather and more. This coincides with the last week of Benton Youth Soccer. The event will be held rain or shine, with indoor facilities already set up in case of bad weather.
